Feliz ano nuevo a todo/as!

Faculty, undergraduate students, and graduate students are invited to submit a paper, panel or posterboard presentation to the annual conference, La Academia del Pueblo, now in its 5th year.

This year, the free conference, on April 26, will feature keynote speaker Pedro Noguera, Peter L. Agnew Professor of Education at New York University.

Dr. Noguera is the author of The Imperatives of Power: Political Change and the Social Basis of Regime Support in Grenada (Peter Lang Publishers, 1997), City Schools and the American Dream  (Teachers College Press, 2003), Unfinished Business: Closing the Achievement Gap in Our Nation’s Schools (Josey Bass, 2006), The Trouble With Black Boys…and Other Reflections on Race, Equity and the Future of Public Education (Wiley and Sons, 2008), and Creating the Opportunity to Learn: Moving from Research to Practice to Close the Achievement Gap with A. Wade Boykin (ASCD, 2011).

The theme of this year's conference is: "El Movimiento 2.0: Youth, Identity, Empowerment."

With now more than 150 undergraduate and graduate student presentations consistently each year, this year, we would like to especially encourage submissions from our faculty colleagues and panels which combine students with their faculty mentors as well, in order to complete the circle of a truly inter-generational dialog where some very powerful mentoring, modeling and professional networking can occur for the advancement of our younger colegas and the betterment of nuestra comunidad as a whole.

Please distribute widely among your undergraduate and graduate students as well as your faculty colleagues. Submissions can be made at this website.

De antemano, our many thanks, and best wishes for a prosperous new year!
