FAST Lecture: "Of Marble and Mud: The Sant'Omobono Project, 2009-2014"

Thursday, November 6, 2014
12:00 AM
Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, 434 South State Street, Ann Arbor

The baroque church of Sant'Omobono in Rome's Forum Boarium sits atop the accumulated material remains of continuous human occupation from at least the 7th century BCE. Brought to light in 1937, this ancient sanctuary site has been the focus of work by the Sant’Omobono Project (cosponsored by the University of Michigan) since 2009. Archival research and deep excavations below the water table have combined to shed new light on this fascinating and frustrating site, which includes what may be the oldest temple in Rome.

FAST Lectures are organized by students in the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archaeology.

Speaker:
Dan Diffendale, IPCAA PhD student
