GER 449 History of Science is a new upper-level undergraduate course dealing with important debates and discoveries in the history of German science. Central to the conceptualization of the course is its hands-on approach: students read 18th- to early twentieth-century primary texts in German and English, and then reenact historical experiments and demonstrations. In so doing, students investigate the ways in which scientific knowledge was made and they inquire into changing conceptions about the nature of science and scientific inquiry.
