The interests of students in the Program span the chronological and geographical limits of the ancient world, and sometimes even cross them. Some students are primarily interested in classical Athens, or the central period of Roman Empire, while others work on archaic Rome, Late Antiquity or even the early Middle Ages. Some work on Greece and Italy, while others focus on Gaul, Syria or Egypt. Methodologically, students also draw on a wide variety of approaches and types of evidence, including literary texts, inscriptions, papyri, and material culture. IPGRH is part of a broader intellectual and social community that includes faculty and students from various Departments, including History, Classical Studies, the Interdepartmental Program in Classical Art and Archeology, Middle East Studies, and Judaic Studies.
