Human Subjects Research

  • The university offers training options related to human subjects research ethics and compliance. The Program for Education and Evaluation in Responsible Research and Scholarship (PEERRS) provides online training modules in selected responsible conduct of research (RCR) topics (e.g., human subjects protection, foundations of good research practice) for faculty, staff, and students. This program also offers resources for international human subject research.

  • The School of Public Health offers a graduate-level course on health behavior and health education called HBEHED 733: Community Based Participatory Research, which includes reading materials and lesson plans devoted to working with Indigenous communities in the U.S, including but not limited to, tribal review boards and ethical considerations for non-Native researchers. This course is taught by Professor Barbara Israel, who also directs the Detroit Urban Research Center.
