Michael Löwy a French-Brazilian Marxist sociologist and philosopher, is emeritus research director in social sciences at the Centre national de la recherche scientifique and lectures at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales.  Among his publications are  Romanticism against the Current of Modernity (with Robert Sayre), Duke University Press, 2000 and  Fire Alarm. Reading Walter Benjamin’s Thesis "On the concept of history,"  London,  Verso,  2006.
