The Magic Flute is one of Mozart’s most lasting contributions to the stage and to music history. Over the duration of the term, we will delve into the plot, music, and staging. We will gain a wide range of perspectives on this opera. Readings in German will include the text, insights into Mozart’s biography, and the background of the work’s origin. The language of instruction is German. The course relies heavily on singing to become acquainted with the music. Student evaluation is based on performance in class participation, regular grammatical exercises, essays, oral presentations, and the final exam.
