German PhD candidate Elizabeth McNeill was awarded The German Quarterly's Best Graduate Student Essay Award for her essay “Writing with 'Pfotenhänden': Reading (with) Polar Bears in Yoko Tawada's Etüden im Schnee.” Each year the journal's editorial board, in cooperation with the journal's editor, selects an article among the submissions it has received from graduate students. McNeill's essay was selected for its original and thorough reading of Tawada's text and will be published in an upcoming issue of The German Quarterly. The awards ceremony will take place at the AATG/ACTFL conference in New Orleans on Saturday, November 17, 2018.

Congratulations, Liz!
