Professor Matthew Solomon recently contributed the chapter “L’illusionnisme incohérent” to the book Machines. Magie. Médias. (Presses Universitaires du Septentrion, 2018). A dynamic constellation in which practices and knowledge intersect, intermingle and redefine themselves, magic unfolds in many facets, nourishing itself with advances in knowledge in the most diverse fields: from physics to religion, from chemistry to linguistics, from philosophy to technology, theories of communication and media to the performing body. It is in order to identify the main issues of this vast and moving entity that we have invited specialists to approach it, from their practice and their original discipline, focusing on its spectacular dimension.
