On May 7, 2016, Dan Herbert gave an invited presentation at the "Terror on Tape" symposium at Yale University. This symposium, on the history of horror on video tape, investigated connections between the emergence of the prerecorded video industry and the development of the horror and exploitation genres. It offered a space to discuss the kinds of work that the newly acquired Yale VHS Horror and Exploitation Collection might facilitate. Herbert's talk, entitled "A Good Place for a Bad Education: Video Stores, Libraries, and Cult Cinema," looked at the historical relationship between public libraries and video stores.
