Current Students

The student community in the Department of Film, Television, and Media doctoral program includes a diverse group of individuals studying a broad range of topics in television, cinema, and digital media.

Our students are using a variety of methods to conduct research on an impressive range of current and historical topics, including Cuban exile media, film censorship in Detroit, Japanese variety programs, and contemporary queer media. Some enter the doctoral program directly from an undergraduate or other graduate program while others enter after working outside academia for a number of years.

The graduate student population is kept small to make sure the students have an environment where they are able to work closely with faculty and peers. Graduate students are also encouraged to be active in the development and expansion of the department, from helping with the recruitment of new faculty and graduates to organizing events for the department and broader university community.
