Welcome to the University of Michigan Department of English Undergraduate Programs page. Here you will find details about our undergraduate degree programs, writing resources, and academic advising.
The English Major fosters critical thinking, creativity and cultural understanding. We believe that intention, care, and imagination are the keys to reading the world and writing its stories. Our award-winning faculty and staff facilitate a learning environment that cultivate these qualtiies here at UM.
The Department offers Minors in both English and in Creative Writing for students wishing to pursue literary studies alongside a major in another field.
The English Department Writing Program is dedicated to the teaching of writing, particularly for students in their first year. Over the course of the academic year, we teach approximately 6,700 students from across the university. You'll find a wide range of information concerning the study of writing in the First-Year Writing section of our website.
Looking to declare a major or minor in English or to speak with an academic advisor? Curious about transfer credit, study abroad, or similar matters? The Advising Information section is for you.
