The Eisenberg Institute continues its Winter 2014 Thursday Speaker Series on March 27, 4 p.m., 1014 Tisch Hall, with Elizabeth Edwards' lecture, "Folded in Time: Thoughts on a Photograph Album." The talk follows the Institute's 2013-15 theme, "Materials of History." Link for a lecture abstract. Free and open to the public.

Elizabeth Edwards is Research Professor of Photographic History and Director of the Photographic History Research Centre, De Montfort University, Leicester, UK. She has previously held posts as Curator of Photographs at Pitt Rivers Museum and lecturer in visual anthropology at the University of Oxford, and at the University of the Arts London. In 2012 she was a Fellow, at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Durham University, and Visiting Scholar, Max Planck Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte, Berlin, in 2008. She has worked extensively on the relationships between photography, anthropology and history, on the material and sensory apprehension of photographs and on the history of photographic practice. Her most recent book is The Camera as Historian: Amateur Photographers and Historical Imagination 1885-1918 (Duke University Press, 2012).  

On Friday, March 28, 12 p.m. in 1014 Tisch Hall, the Eisenberg Institute presents the workshop, "Staging History Within the Margins of a Photograph." The panel features Elizabeth Edwards, Tara Dosumu Diener (Ph.D. Candidate, Anthropology & History), and Rachel Miller (Ph.D. Student, American Culture). Chaired by Anne Berg (Lecturer and Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, History). Lunch provided. Free and open to the public.
