The Eisenberg Institute continues its Fall 2013 Thursday Speaker Series on November 7, 4 p.m., 1014 Tisch Hall, with Deirdre de la Cruz's lecture, "The Rose Petals of Lipa". The talk follows the Institute's 2013-15 theme, "Materials of History." Link for a lecture abstract. Free and open to the public.

Deirdre de la Cruz is an assistant professor in History and Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan. She is the author of several articles on the history of Catholic devotions in the Philippines and its diaspora, and is currently completing a book on modern apparitions of the Virgin Mary in the Philippines. This year she is a Faculty Fellow at the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan, where she is working on a new project about late nineteenth century Spiritism, anti-colonialism, and occult imaginaries of the global.

On Friday, November 8, 12 p.m. in 1014 Tisch Hall, the Eisenberg Institute presents the "Graduate Fellows Forum". The panel features Institute graduate student fellows Sara Katz (Ph.D. Student, History), Ronit Stahl (Ph.D. Candidate, History), Jacques Vest (Ph.D. Student, History), and Joseph Viscomi (Ph.D. Candidate, Anthropology & History). Chaired by Institute Postdoctoral Fellow Sarah Hamilton. Lunch provided. Free and open to the public.
