During the summer of 2010 Jillian Drow, an LSA student taking Introductory Geology (EARTH 116) at Camp Davis Rocky Mountain Field Station, died in a hiking accident in Grand Teton National Park. She was very bright and spirited with an avid love of nature and the environment, as well as the scientific curiosity that we seek to instill in all of our students. Jillian brought an infectious enthusiasm to all of her activities and her death deeply touched all who knew her.
Jillian’s parents, Debra and Mark Drow, have generously donated funds in their daughter’s memory to create a scholarship to provide support for students with financial need to attend summer programs at Camp Davis. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences would like to build an endowment fund that will allow this scholarship to continue in perpetuity as a legacy for Jillian. We invite Camp Davis alumni and other friends of the Department to make a gift in support of the Jillian Drow Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund*. The fund will support an annual need-based scholarship for a University of Michigan undergraduate student to defray the cost of attending Camp Davis. If we do not reach the University’s endowment minimum of $10,000, all contributions will become part of an expendable fund for Camp Davis scholarships.
To contribute to the Jillian Drow Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, please send a check made payable to the University of Michigan to:
Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences
1100 N. University Ave.
2534 C.C. Little Building
Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1005
We wish to thank our alumni and friends for their support of Camp Davis. This enables us to continue to offer valuable field experiences to our students. The Drow family also extends their gratitude for your consideration of this special recognition of their beloved daughter.
*The Fund constitutes gifts for endowment, and distributions will be made in accordance with the University’s then existing endowment distribution policy. Any surplus distributions from the Fund during any period may be accumulated for later use for the above purpose or may be added to the principal of the Fund at the University’s discretion.
