Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The mission of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences  is to promote education and scientific discovery about the entire Earth.

We welcome all who are curious about the Earth and we strive to create an environment that is accessible and supportive to everyone. Our shared responsibility to treat each other with respect is integral to creating and maintaining a vibrant community.

As part of this, we;

Engage our community and encourage learning widely, with a commitment to making science part of the public space.

Cultivate and encourage young learners  through training programs for K-12 students with a particular focus on college preparation for students who come from communities that are under-represented in STEM fields.

Create a supportive environment for all members of our department.

Recruit students from diverse backgrounds to our undergraduate and graduate programs and partner with other programs who share this goal.

Provide career training to the next generation of the Earth and environmental scientists.

Have zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or harassment.

These efforts are part of College and University wide missions to expand the enhance diversity, equity and inclusion in academia.
