Rick was a co-founder of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) and pioneer in the field of complex systems. He was a beloved scholar, friend, mentor, and colleague to those of us in the Complex Systems community here at Michigan and beyond.  Rick was a mentor to students, and devoted untold hours to the student run Complex Systems Advanced Academic Workshop (CSAAW) group.  To honor Rick's dedication to students, the fund has been created specifically to support student research.

FUND KICK OFF NOVEMBER 27 - UM GIVING BLUEDAY WITH A SPECIAL LECTURE BY SCOTT PAGE - PRESENTED IN HONOR OF THE RICK RIOLO MEMORIAL FUND.  CLICK FOR TALK DETAILS AND BOOK GIVEAWAY.

The RRMF will support an annual agent-based modeling (ABM) prize awarded to undergraduates and provide research support for graduate students involved in CSAAW.  Rick blazed the trail for a new frontier of science. This fund will keep his spirit of innovation alive for generations to come.

The Fund constitutes a gift for endowment, and distributions from it shall be made in accordance with the University’s then existing endowment distribution policy. Any surplus distributions during any period may be accumulated for later use for the above purposes or may be added to the principal of the Fund, in the University’s discretion. If the University’s minimum threshold of $25,000 to establish an endowment is not met by December 31, 2019, the endowment will be terminated and the funds will be used on an expendable basis for the stated purpose of the Fund.

The Dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts shall be responsible for carrying out the intended purpose of the Fund.
