The LSA Executive Committee approved the creation of a new minor effective Winter 2014.

Building on LSA's language requirement, the Minor in Translation Studies gives students an opportunity to learn about diverse histories, theories, and practices of translation, through a flexible sequence of courses selected from various departments. The minor also encourages experiential, engaged learning through a capstone project that draws on the particular background and skills of students interested in literary translation, technical translation, translation across media, translation internships, or other translation activities pursued on campus, in the community or during Study Abroad. The goal of the minor is to make students aware of a wide range of opportunities in translation and to promote critical reflection on translation, broadly construed as an interaction between languages, cultures, media, discourses, and disciplines.
