Abstract:
How do concepts and ideas travel from one field of knowledge to the other or from one language to the other? How do they contribute to the emergence of new insights and which kinds of transformation do they undergo through these processes of transfer? I will explore these questions by considering Robert Musil’s appropriation of the concept of Gestalt and Philippe Jaccottet’s rendering of the term Gestalt and its derivatives in his translation of Musil’s works into French.
