How do I choose a major?

All prospective students are encouraged to visit us to learn more about the majors and minors we offer. Depending on your current interests and plans after your undergraduate degree will help us determine the best major for you. Staff and faculty advisors are available to answer your questions by appointment or during our open advising hours.

How do I declare?

Once you have decided on what major or minor you would like to declare, you should schedule an appointment or come to our open advising hours

You should have a major GPA of at least a 2.0 to declare a major (prerequisite courses for the major are included in the GPA calculation). Be sure to meet with a major advisor early in your career to discuss the program and your plans.

How Do I Request a Major/Minor Release?

You should schedule an appointment or come to our open advising hours to meet with a major advisor to have your major or minor release submitted. If all requirements have been completed, you can email chemundergrad@umich.edu and releases can be done through email.
