What? The U-M STEM Research Career Award, Goldwater, and Astronaut Scholarships provide $5000, $7500 and $10,000 respectively to sophomores and juniors who plan to pursue research careers in STEM fields.  Students may apply for all three scholarships through a unified application process.

Who Should Be Interested?  Sophomore and junior STEM majors who intend to pursue PhDs and research careers.  MD-PhD candidates are eligible, but not students who will pursue an MD only. Similarly, engineering students who plan to pursue a PhD and research career in either academia or industry are eligible, but not those who plan to pursue a master’s only.  Competitive applicants typically have >3.8 GPA and 1-2 years of undergraduate research experience.
