Monica Rico is a second generation Mexican-American who grew up in Saginaw, Michigan alongside General Motors and the legend of Theodore Roethke. She is a second year MFA candidate at the University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers’ Program and is the author of Twisted Mouth of the Tulip. Her poems have appeared in BOAAT, Fifth Wednesday, Cosmonauts Avenue, The Florida Review Aquifer, Barrelhouse’s HEARD: A Tribute to Anthony Bourdain, Glass: A Journal of Poetry (Poets Resist), and Split this Rock’s Poem of the Week. She is a 2019 CantoMundo Fellow and Macondista.
