Cosmology, Extragalactic & Galactic

Cosmology is the study of the origin of the universe. Researchers in this area aim to understand the formation and evolution of the universe and its structures at larger scales, including galaxy clusters, individual galaxies, large stellar populations, and the interstellar and intergalactic media. Some areas of attention include large-scale survey development and analysis (including the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, Pan-STARRS, the Dark Energy Survey, and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope); computational modeling of galactic evolution; studies of stellar populations and their feedback effects; and the nature of dark matter and energy.
