It’s no secret that the job market is tight for archaeologists. Does the choice of graduate school make a difference in landing a position? Fourteen professors from the University of Georgia have compiled data showing that indeed it does. In an American Antiquity article published in August 2017, the authors ranked US doctoral programs by the success their archaeology graduates have had in the academic job market. The University of Michigan was at the top of the list. The next nine programs, in order: University of Arizona, University of California-Berkeley, University of Pennsylvania, Arizona State University, Harvard University, Texas A&M University, University of California-Santa Barbara, University of Chicago, and University of New Mexico.
