Dear Colleagues,

I wanted to share with you a statement from Arab and Muslim American Studies (AMAS) as well as the Center for Middle Eastern & North African Studies (CMENAS):

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the 49 Muslims murdered by white supremacist violence in New Zealand. We recognize this massacre as a continuation of the global violence of white supremacy that has terrorized Indigenous, Black, Arab, Latinx, Muslim, Jewish, and Asian communities for centuries. We condemn and resist it in the strongest possible terms.

We know some in our communities are afraid, angry, confused, sad and fatigued. We honor those feelings and encourage you to support each other. We recommit ourselves to each other and to creating a just world in which no one lives in fear.

I know many of you are already aware of the vigil tomorrow Saturday at 4pm. Here is the FB event page. Please help  spread the word for a strong show of solidarity against hate. Also, if you'd like to share your voice at the vigil in the form of 3 min poetry or other text, please email Haleemah Aqel <aqelhs@umich.edu> to sign up.
