Claire Potter, a Professor of History at The New School in New York, has been actively engaged and writing about the career crisis for humanties ph.d.'s for several years. Her on-line column "Tenured Radical" at The Chronicle of Higher Education has become a key site of debate and theorizing about the future role of academic institutions. Her talk here at Michigan, entitled "Virtually a Scholar: The Internet, Intellectual Community and the Future of Academic Labor," similarly promises to draw out a lively engagement.
