"I spent three weeks in May and June doing research at the National Diet Library and Waseda University for my current project, Japanese Writers in the Bandung Moment.  The project is about a group of Japanese writers who worked with anticolonial cultural organizations in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s to support the decolonization of Africa and Asia and to promote knowledge of African and Asian literature in Japan.  My research this summer was on a literary journal with which many of these writers were involved, Shin Nihon bungaku or New Japanese Literature."
