The purpose of Human Rights through Education (HRTE) is to educate advocates of the future and to support advocates of the present; to provide opportunities for social justice-related networking; to empower student social advocacy initiatives; to bring human rights to the academic and social mainstream by providing it the position it deserves as a fundamental component of any successful university education; and to enhance the contribution that the University of Michigan makes to this young and evolving discipline by cultivating an environment centered on engagement, debate, and the recognition of diverse viewpoints.
