About
Guadalupe Madrigal received her B.A. in Communication Studies and Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Her honors thesis focused on discourse analysis of newspapers in Los Angeles during the Mexican Deportations of the Great Depression.
Her doctoral research is centered on the question: What increases support for specific immigrant groups over others? Her current research examines news media’s narrative construction of undocumented immigrant youth, and the impact of these narratives on public opinion and attitudes toward immigration. She pairs her work with a graduate certificate in Latina/o Studies.
Fun Facts Alert! When Guadalupe is not PhD-ing, she is dancing salsa, crocheting scarfs, or reading novels. She is also affectionately known by her nickname “Lupita.”
