Bridge MA Student
About
Abbey is originally from Winston-Salem, NC. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2022 magna cum laude and with full university honors, earning a degree in Classical Studies with a concentration in language and literature. While at UNCG, Abbey was awarded a Mellon Grant with which she researched the relationship between Julia Domna and her image on coins during the Severan Period. In 2021, she was awarded the Manson Stewart Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Classical Studies from CAMWS. That summer she had the opportunity to attend MICHHERS (virtually due to COVID), which solidified her desire to pursue graduate studies in Classics and Ancient History. Her senior thesis focused on the increase of the goddess Salus on coins during the Antonine Period, beginning under Hadrian. This study was the first of its kind to quantify this pattern of Salus imagery on coinage and considered the multivalent socio-cultural context behind this trend. Abbey’s research interests include ancient medicine, broad historical trends, and gender and minoritized populations. When not in the classroom, Abbey enjoys fitness, reading, and quality time with friends and family.
