The department of Classical Studies is delighted to announce a recent gift agreement including $25,000 to the College of LSA to establish the Cynthia L. Cook Strategic Fund in the Department of Classical Studies.

This is a wonderful gift from an alumna of Classics who majored in Latin and received an education degree to teach Latin in high school. (Cynthia Cook is also a donor to Student Life / the Martha Cook Building and Financial Aid.) The gift to Classics is defined as a discretionary strategic fund. This means that the income it generates (about $1,500 / year) will be used at the discretion of the chair. Given Cynthia Cook's training, the department will give priority to support for student study or teacher training in Latin.

The department would like to add that the donor expressed in her gift agreement her desire to honor Bruce Frier, an influential professor during her studies at the university.
