On May 3rd, 2019, the Department of Classical Studies celebrated the graduation and accomplishments of the Class of 2019 at the Graduate Hotel, in Ann Arbor.
This year, the department was happy to congratulate 38 undergraduate students; two students completing a senior Honors Thesis; five graduating Master's students; and five graduating Ph.D. students on all their hard work and accomplishments. The department also recognized the exceptional work of six students with the following awards:

Awarded to the top undergraduate student for distinguished achievement in the study of Classical Archaeology

Awarded to the top undergraduate student for distinguished achievement in the study of Classical Civilization
Awarded to Nilay Patel
Classical Linguistics Prize
Awarded to the top undergraduate student for distinguished achievement in the study of Classical Linguistics
Awarded to Anthony Struthers-Young
Seligson Prize
Awarded in memory of Gerda M. Seligson recognizing the most exceptional undergraduate senior who excels in the study of Classical Greek
Awarded to Liliana Talwatte
Calliopi Papala Politou Prize in Modern Greek
Awarded in memory of Calliopi Evangelinos recognizing the most exceptional undergraduate senior who excels in the study of Modern Greek
Awarded to Christina Triantafillopoulos
Future Latin Teacher Prize
Awarded to promising students who are preparing to teach Latin at the secondary level upon graduation
Awarded to Paula Babula
Our students have reported a wide variety of post-graduation plans, ranging from: taking time off for travel and recreation; returning to school for post-graduate studies in the field of classics; post-graduate studies in the fields of medicine and law; internships at museums; secondary education in the fields of Latin and Greek; teaching English as a second language abroad; and starting jobs in the both the private and non-profit sectors.
