  • City: Grenoble
  • Term: Spring
  • Instruction in: French
  • Requirements: 2 semesters of college-level French
  • Students interested in: Fulfills last two semesters of LSA language requirement

Take French 230 - a combination of French 231 and 232 - taught by a U-M French instructor, and receive 8 credits to complete the LSA language requirement. This intensive language program facilitates understanding of Francophone customs by housing students with a host family. Students may opt to continue their French studies in Grenoble by also enrolling in the Intermediate French Language Studies program, which begins just a few days after this program ends. U-M faculty and on-site staff organize activities to complement classroom learning. Previous groups have visited local schools to interact with French students, and taken a cooking class. Day trips are also offered to the group. Past day trips have taken students to Lyon, Chartreuse, Annecy, and Avignon. This course is taught and led by U-M Lecturer Helen Van Doren.
