Freiburg is located in the southwest region of Germany, bordering Switzerland and France. A historically famous university town, Freiburg has become known as one of the world’s “greenest” cities. The program begins with amonth-long intensive language program in September. At the start of the academic year in October, students build a course schedule from both courses designed for German-language learners and from courses available to all students at Albert-Ludwigs Universität.
Students may also take courses at the Pädagogische Hochschule (teachers’ college) for an even wider array of course options. During their time in Freiburg, students will have many opportunities to travel off campus to enhance their understanding of German culture, politics, and geography. Program staff organize excursions during the year and provide guidance for students hoping to integrate into local student life.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY: For Academic Year in Freiburg 2022-23, tuition for this year-long program is covered by a program fee and students receive U-M in-residence credit for the courses they take.
