Below you will find information from both CGIS & the Organizational Studies Program for students interested in pursuing courses abroad related to organizational studies. Please note that all LSA students receive in-residence credits, and grades will be included in your UM gpa, when studying abroad through CGIS.
The Organizational Studies Program encourages students to pursue opportunities abroad in order to enhance their education and gain global perspectives. An excellent range of both full semester and shorter term study abroad options (including spring or summer timeframes) exists for students at Michigan.
Study Abroad courses can often be used for OS major requirements.
Students can typically fulfill one or two of their cluster requirements through study abroad courses (mostly in Cluster C, occasionally in Cluster B, and rarely in Cluster A). For OS majors, abroad courses that have substantial organizational content, offered in many different disciplines, may be approved to count toward the major (maximum of two courses taken off the Ann Arbor campus may be counted in the major).
Process for approval: Students should consult with an OS advisor to see how specific courses abroad might count toward the major. Students may also refer to the Study Abroad Transfer Credit Equivalency Guide; if an abroad course is listed as transferring to UM as equivalent to a course that appears on our OS curriculum, it can count toward the major. Declared OS majors can also find study abroad resources on the OS Student Portal. If you've already studied abroad and you want to submit a course for approval, please email the course description to your OS advisor.

Funding opportunities: Financial aid and scholarships are available for many programs and the LSA Study Abroad Scholarship is also available to all eligible LSA students. OS also offers an OS Study Abroad Scholarship for declared OS majors, and further funding information is offered on the OS Student Portal.
Next Steps: Attend a First Step session where you will learn general information about studying abroad through CGIS. Once you've attended a First Step session, you can schedule an appointment with a CGIS advisor who will be able to help you through the application process and can address any of your questions or concerns in relations to curriculum, navigating your identity, navigating through a specific country, and so much more! CGIS advisors also offer open advising throughout the week for quick questions you may have.
