Students can complete their third and fourth semester LSA language requirements with AsianLan 203. Taught by U-M Chinese Language Instructor Karen Gu, this intensive course is two semesters and 10 credits of coursework combined into 10 weeks of classes. The classroom is located near Nanjing University allowing students access to local campus life. Besides daily language classes, a variety of cultural immersion opportunities and activities are arranged. There are also regular field trips to sites in the region, and the program includes a trip to Shanghai. Students will live with local host families during the program.
Students should have a B- or better grade earned in the most recent Chinese language course taken. Students who have completed AsianLan 203 or 204 may be eligible to apply with special permission from the Asian Languages and Cultures Department. Due to the intensive nature of this program, preference may be given to students taking a language course during the Winter semester immediately preceding the abroad term.
