Experience the warm welcome of the locals in Santiago de los Caballeros, the DR’s second largest city. Surrounded by mountains in the lush Cibao valley, Santiago is a large city that retains a small-town feel. Earn 10 credits on this unique 8-week program. With its underserved population facing a spate of social and health issues, the Dominican Republic offers students deep insight into the state of health care in the Caribbean. Combining traditional classroom instruction with homestays and field work in urban and semi-rural communities, students will explore the challenges confronting developing countries. Students will improve their Spanish language skills, examine a range of pre-professional health care issues, and engage with local patients and medical staff through a health practicum. The program fee includes housing and two meals per day.
