São Paulo is a melting pot packed with first-rate museums, art-house cinemas, experimental theaters, and world-class restaurants. With its large Japanese, Italian, Arab, & LGBTQ+ communities, São Paulo is an ideal metropolis to study abroad. This program combines Portuguese language courses and electives taught in English including economics, political science, development studies, and sociology; intermediate and advanced Portuguese. Students can directly enroll in courses at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo. Portuguese language courses, including Portuguese for Spanish speakers, cover at least one year of university-level Portuguese language each semester. Meet with grassroots organizations, villagers, and representatives of indigenous groups on academic excursions, a week-long traveling seminar to Salvador da Bahia, and day and overnight trips in and around São Paulo. Students will also have opportunities to volunteer in the local community and will share an apartment with a Brazilian roommate, allowing students to improve their language skills and find comfort in navigating the city.
