Pre-Departure FAQs

  • What happens if I miss my flight? What happens if my flight is delayed?
    • Work with the airline to get rebooked and notify your on-site contact of any changes. If you miss scheduled airport pick up, then you may have to book transportation. Please also let any friends or family who are tracking your travel know as well.
  • What if I test positive for COVID just before I depart for my program?

    • Immediately contact both the CGIS office as well as the contact given to you in your program supplemental handbook and inform them of your positive diagnosis. 

    • You will likely need to self-isolate in the US for at least 5-10 days before you are able to depart for your program. 

    • Plan to see a physician or health care facility before you depart to obtain documentation of recovery

    • Re-book your flight to your host country

    • Inquire with the on-site staff about starting your program remotely

  • Where can I get a COVID test before I depart?

    What should I take with me in my carryon luggage?

    • Proof of negative COVID-19 test

    • Passport/visa as applicable

    • COVID-19 Vaccination card

    • GeoBlue insurance card. You can print these from your GeoBlue account and on your MCompass document portal. 

    • Flight itinerary

    • An extra day's worth of clothes, just in case!

    • The address of where you are going and important phone numbers (both local numbers in your host country and those for your U.S. contacts). Please see your program supplemental handbook for onsite contact information.

    • Please make copies of these documents and keep them ALL in a SAFE place: You can also take a photo to keep in your phone in case it is needed on the spot.

     

  • Where can I get a copy of my GeoBlue card?

    • You can print your card from your MCompass document portal. 

    • You also should have received an email from GeoBlue with information on how to create an account. Once you have created an account, you can print your card directly from their website.

    • GeoBlue also sends a physical copy to the CGIS office. If you would like your physical copy, it will be available in the office for those of you still on campus.

  • Do I need proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter my host country?
