This course will explore the social aspects of health, medicine, and the health care system. We will examine such issues as the social causation of disease, relationships between doctors and patients, the health care professions, health and health care among women and the poor, and the current health care crisis.
Intended Audience:
This course welcomes entirely online participation.
Class Format:
Instruction Mode: As a DC (Distance due to COVID) course, all aspects of this course will be fully compatible with remote online learning.
Learning Mode: The weekly lectures will require synchronous participation but will also be recorded and made available on Canvas later.
Course Teaching/Assessment: Assessments will be conducted asynchronously and submitted via Canvas as 8 brief reaction papers (3 pages) to be uploaded to canvas within a designated time frame. Students will also have a choice of submitting a term paper or an essay test asynchronously.
Technology Platform: The course will use Canvas for asynchronous online components. Synchronous meetings will be conducted on Zoom. Students should have access to camera and microphone.
