Description

Conquer the first stage of the Russian language with a communicative approach that goes beyond memorizing vocabulary! This course will take students through all aspects of beginning Russian study, including the language, life, and culture of today’s Russian people. Using Troika by M. Nummikowski textbook as a communicative introductory Russian text, this course emphasizes language proficiency in all four skills of speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Everyday topics are presented to allow students to begin communicating immediately. Grammar is presented as a necessary tool for communication and is introduced in cultural context throughout the course.

Course Requirements:

Consistent attendance, active class participation, daily homework, short quizzes, chapter tests, and final written and oral exams.

Intended Audience:

Beginning language students interested in intensive Russian language study during the Spring or Summer term.

Class Format:

Intensive RUSSIAN 123 is equivalent to the two-semester first-year Russian language sequence (Russian 101 and 102). Classes meet four hours a day, five days a week.
