Description

This laboratory course will teach the measurement techniques often used in clinical chemistry laboratories to determine the levels of specific chemical species in blood and urine samples.

Students will gain hands-on experience using electrochemical, optical/spectroscopic and separation techniques to quantitate the concentrations of glucose, salicylate, potassium, urea, IgG, and other species in simulated blood and urine samples.

Intended Audience:

Students in bio-related concentrations who are thinking of being experimentalists. Also for pre-health students who are looking for a lab/lecture combination to fill out their pre-professional chemistry requirements.

NOTE: CHEM 247 can only be taken in conjunction with CHEM 245 and CHEM 246; this is not a stand-alone course.
