The course continues the Modern Greek language sequence (fifth semester). Using authentic materials relating to contemporary life, it aims to enhance language skills on a variety of registers and promote accuracy and fluency. Students work to master, understand, and use effectively linguistic structures; develop academic/professional vocabulary so as to express complex ideas; to improve writing and oral skills, via presentations, collaborative projects, conversations and assignments based on topics and texts drawn from film, documentaries, newspapers, websites, cartoons, music, painting, etc.

Course Requirements:

  • 5 quizzes
  • 2 written exams (midterm and final)
  • an oral exam
  • a portfolio comprising writing, viewing, and listening assignments

Intended Audience:

Completion of four semesters of Modern Greek or the equivalent established by placement exam. Students of any class rank and major are welcome. 301 is for undergraduates, 505 for graduate students.

Class Format:

Two meetings per week, seminar format.
