This fall, a select group of BLI students, staff, and alumni had the chance to come together for a fun Homecoming Weekend cheering on the Wolverines as they took on Arkansas State on a beautiful fall day! We were delighted to invite 10 alumni and 14 students to the Homecoming Tailgate hosted by the Alumni Association and provide them with tickets to the game. The Alumni Territory Tailgate welcomed hundreds of alumni and friends on the UM Golf Course where attendees played games and experienced special performances by the Michigan Marching Band, U-M Cheerleaders, the Glee Clubs, and the U-M Dance team. Current students had the opportunity to engage and form meaningful connections with BLI alumni from across the Midwest. A lucky group was even able to watch Michigan win from Dave Barger’s suite at the Big House! Overall, the events were a big success, and we look forward to continuing this annual tradition!
Here is what several students shared about their experience:
“I'm so grateful to work for an organization that cares so much about their alumni and the relationships between alumni and students. Not only did I get to make meaningful connections with alumni, but I also had an amazing time watching the game with students and enjoying the suite experience.” Ayana A.
“I had an incredible experience at the Barger Leadership Institute's Alumni Tailgate! As a member of the BLI Events Team, I am often too busy to connect with participants when hosting Community Meetings. The Alumni Tailgate, however, allowed me to connect with members and alumni in a casual setting. It was a privilege to speak with Dave Barger, the BLI's founder, to discuss the institute's initiatives for the upcoming school year.” Meaghan E.
“It was a pleasure to attend the BLI alumni homecoming weekend events! I enjoyed all the connections that I was able to create with my peers, and especially was honored to meet Dave Barger in-person.” Thomas M.
The BLI is looking forward to our next alumni engagement activity this spring, which will be centered on wellness and fostering resilience. If you are interested in participating as a student or alumni, please reach out to [email protected].
