Once students have successfully completed a Leadership Lab they become BLI Leadership Fellows. The Fellows are the BLI's core group of student leaders and can continue to participate in all community events. They will share their experience of the Leadership Labs, the practice of the BLI Habits, and the identity that comes with earning a title that recognizes their common achievement. Entering the Fellows phase of the program opens a wide range of opportunities that students can choose to pursue at any time during their Michigan career.
Fellows will be eligible for all of our funding programs and will have exclusive access to new leadership development opportunities. We hope that BLI Fellows will use these opportunities to forward their own goals and to enrich the work of other programs they take part in on and off campus. Opportunities for BLI Leadership Fellows include:
Access Opportunities are high impact opportunities that allow Leadership Fellows to experience the reality of 21st century leadership through intense, but often brief, chances to interact with and observe leadership in action. Meet BLI stakeholders, UM alumni, and community leaders here and across the globe in these limited, expense-paid experiences.
BLI funding is intended to stimulate leadership learning by seeding innovative projects that are responsive to the campus community and/or societal issues.
- Small Grants offer up to $500 to support short-term projects or events.
- Project Grants offer up to $1,500 to support of medium to long-term, team-based projects.
The Dinner With series offers a valuable opportunity for Leadership Fellows to enjoy a dinner with a BLI stakeholder and get a behind the curtain view of their leadership journey. Dinner attendees build community, share leadership interests, and cultivate meaningful connections in an informal setting.
Fellows then have the opportunity to apply for Advanced Leadership Fellow programs.
