Academic Program Manager & LEO Adjunct Lecturer
About
Fatema has been working in university settings for nearly a decade. She served as an instructor and Dean of Students at the Asian University for Women, an international, liberal arts university in Chittagong, Bangladesh, for four years. When she moved back to the States, she joined the University of Michigan as a graduate student in the School of Education, interned at the Ginsberg Center and Community-Engaged Academic Learning, and taught as a GSI in the Women's Studies department. After graduating with a Master of Arts in Higher Education, she joined the University of Michigan Medical School where she designed curricula for clinical medical students, facilitated faculty development, and published medical education scholarship.
Fatema believes that leadership begins with the self: we must know our stories, privileges, values and internalized scripts in order to lead ourselves and others effectively and equitably. To that end, she has spent years honing skills in critical reflection and self-directed learning. She is excited to join the Barger Leadership Institute as an Academic Program Manager and hopes to incorporate her knowledge and skills into BLI initiatives.
