Program Overview
The Summer REU Program in Biophysics offers selected undergraduate students from across the U.S. the opportunity to conduct ten weeks of summer research with leading biophysicists at the University of Michigan. The program is conducted in concert with the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates Program and is supported by, and contingent upon, funds from the National Science Foundation.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis. Outstanding candidates may receive early admission.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (with the necessary documentation)
- Be an active undergraduate student enrolled in a bachelor's program
- Have completed at least one year of college by the start of the summer
- Be enrolled at an institution other than the University of Michigan
Most students admitted to the program are between their third and fourth year of undergraduate education.

REU research projects are available in many different biophysical areas, including:
- Structural Biology
- Complex Biosystems
- Computational/Modeling
- Enzymology
- Membrane Biophysics
- Neurobiophysics
- Single Molecule Microscopy
- Spectroscopy

Additional Benefits
Students who are selected and participate in the Biophysics REU Program will receive::
- A stipend of $6,000
- Travel reimbursement (up to $500) for travel to/from Ann Arbor
- On-campus housing
- Access to the UM library system
- Access to world-class research facilities
