LGBTQ Professor Panel

Wednesday, March 23

6-8 p.m.

Great Lakes Room, Palmer Commons

oSTEM (out in STEM), is an LGBTQ organization geared towards students in STEM. Often, in STEM oriented fields, LGBTQ individuals find themselves in more stressful environments because of both their academic strain as well as stress from their identity. Our organization’s main focus is to make sure these individuals get this support at Michigan and provide them with resources on navigating their identities in a professional setting. We dedicate ourselves to building a community for LGBTQ students in both undergraduate and graduate STEM fields.

Because LGBTQ students face these dilemmas, we thought it would be best if LGBTQ professors share their perspective on being “out.” Joining us will be: Dr. Dan Brown, Professor and Interim Dean in the School of Natural Resources and Environment; Dr. Kimberlee Kearfott, Professor in Nuclear Engineering; Dr. Sarah Veatch, Assistant Professor in Biophysics and Physics; and Dr. Jackie Miller, Lecturer in Statistics.
