The Advanced Laboratory Physics Association (ALPhA) is an organization dedicated to advancing experimental physics instruction. ALPhA sponsors "Laboratory Immersions”: workshops that bring instructors together with an experienced mentor for one to three days in order to fully learn about an experiment they could implement in their own advanced physics lab.

This August, participants will have the opportunity to come to the University of Michigan to learn about using the small radio telescope (SRT) in a session called the"Measurement of Galactic Rotation and Evidence for Dark Matter”. Dr. Hughes has experience using the SRT with groups ranging from a high school summer science camp to an upper-level undergraduate astronomical instrumentation class. Dr. Akerlof uses the work he coordinated to upgrade the SRT as a major project in his advanced physics lab.
