“From Spiral Bulges to Mergers to Super Star Clusters to ???”

The question of how science projects are selected and how this leads to a meandering of subject matter over the years is of interest to me. In this talk I will explore the choice of my thesis work on spiral bulges while at Michigan, how this led to work on polar-ring galaxies, which led to an interest in merging galaxies, which led to work on super star clusters, which led to work on normal star clusters, which leads to ??? I find there are three common themes: 1 one answer leads to the next question, 2. New opportunities arise, and 3) connections between people and institutions.
